Pietro Longhi: 'A Nobleman kissing a Lady's Hand'

Explore the paintings

The man who kisses the lady wears the black robes and wig of a Venetian nobleman. He has been described as a Procurator of S. Marco, but there is no firm evidence for this. The servant at the left is bringing coffee on a tray.

The work may date from the same time as a similar picture by Longhi of 1746 called 'The Visit' (New York, Metropolitan Museum).
