Explore the paintings

The faggots (bundles of twigs and sticks) would be used as firewood. Great prominence is given to the white horse, a characteristic element in most of Wouwermans paintings.

Wouwermans painted numerous landscapes, usually with horses, and had great contemporary success. On grounds of style this painting is thought to date from the 1650s.
