Philips Koninck: 'An Extensive Landscape with a Town'

Explore the paintings

The landscape setting, with cattle in the foreground, has not been identified and is probably imaginary. This is probably a late work, painted in about 1665-8.

Koninck, an Amsterdam artist who is said to have been a pupil of Rembrandt, is above all known for this type of panoramic landscape to which he brought an unprecedented tranquility and grandeur.
