Paulus Theodorus van Brussel: 'Flowers in a Vase'

Explore the paintings

Among the flowers are tulips, poppies, narcissi and peonies, and there are roses lying on the ledge. Ghostly trees can just be made out in the background.

This picture is typical of still lifes of this period and, in contrast to still lifes of the 17th century, the background is light and the trees suggest a garden setting.
