Daniele Barbaro (1514 - 1570), churchman and architectural theorist, was one of Veronese's important patrons. On the table are two volumes of his renowned translation of the Roman architect Vitruvius's 'On Architecture'. This was published in Venice in 1556. It was accompanied by drawings by the architect Palladio, who had worked with Veronese on the famed Barbaro family villa in Maser, near Treviso.
