Paolo Fiammingo: 'The Sons of Boreas pursuing the Harpies'
This painting is part of the group: Two Scenes from the Argonautica

Explore the paintings

The subject of this painting may be taken from the 'Argonautica' of Apollonius. The winged Zetes and Calais, the sons of Boreas, are shown chasing the harpies away from the blind Phineus, whose food had been defiled by the harpies.

The companion piece to this work, 'Landscape with Mythological Figures' also seems to be based on a story from the 'Argonautica'. Both works were previously attributed to Ludovico Pozzoserrato.
