The Virgin and Child are enthroned before a landscape. The Christ Child holds a cross. The elaborate architectural canopy behind them, with its wealth of curving arches, is typical of painters' interest in the decorative possibilities of such backgrounds in the Low Countries in the early 16th century.
This picture possibly comes from Brussels or Antwerp and dates from about 1520. The frame, though regilded, appears to be original.
