Picnic at Le Pouldu

Denis painted many images of his extended family during the summer they spent at Le Pouldu, a village in Brittany, in 1899.

Among family and friends, his wife Marthe pours a drink for their daughter Noëlle. The yellow sky provides a luminous backdrop for a story book-like scene. Denis completed the painting the following year.
