Master of the Story of Griselda: 'The Story of Patient Griselda, Part III'
This painting is part of the group: Spalliera Panels with the Story of Patient Griselda

This painting is the third part of a set of works illustrating the last story of Boccaccio's 'Decameron' (see also 'The Story of Patient Griselda' Parts I and II). They may have been let into the wainscoting of a room.

The scene shows the marquis visiting Griselda at her father's house and instructing her to sweep his house for his supposed second marriage. Her children then arrive (unrecognised since she thought they had been killed), and the marquis finally reveals to Griselda that her trials were invented to test her obedience.
