Karel Dujardin: 'Farm Animals with a Boy and Herdswoman'
Dujardin frequently painted placid rustic scenes with animals and peasants set in a landscape. Here the fall of light through the tree on to the backs of the animals is particularly striking. The young boy instructs the dog not to disturb his sleeping companion.

Dujardin was a pupil of Nicolaes Berchem but is here working in a style strongly influenced by that of Paulus Potter.
