Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot: 'Peasants under the Trees at Dawn'

Explore the paintings

This painting depicts a site in Lormes, the principal town in the Morvan region of France, west of Dijon. In the early 1840s Corot took three long working holidays there, visiting the villages of Lormes, Vézelay and Saint-André-en-Morvan. This is one of about fifteen oil studies dating from these visits which are noted for their freshness and originality of composition.
