Jacob Ochtervelt: 'A Woman standing at a Harpsichord, a Man seated by her'

Explore the paintings

Behind the couple hangs a painting of a wooded landscape, and above the doorway is a bust. The woman's dress is the same as the one depicted in 'Two Women and a Man making Music', also in the National Gallery, and its style suggests a date in the late 1670s.

Ochtervelt, who came from Rotterdam, is said to have been, together with Pieter de Hooch, a pupil of Nicolaes Berchem, whose work is also represented in the National Gallery's Collection.
