Italian, Venetian: 'The Story of Cimon and Efigenia'

Explore the paintings

Cimon, a handsome but coarse and uneducated youth, fell in love with Iphigenia (or Efigenia) and married her. The effects of love were beneficial and turned him into an educated and graceful man. This is an improving story from Boccaccio's 'Decameron' (5: 1).

The picture is cut on the left. The original shape suggests it was designed for the decoration of a piece of furniture.
