Isack van Ostade: 'A Winter Scene'
Isack van Ostade specialised in the depiction of winter scenes. This outstanding example is, like 'The Outskirts of a Village', difficult to date with any certainty within the artist's short working life. Generally, it seems that his early work is closely dependent on his brother Adriaen's early peasant interiors; in his later years he was more interested in outdoor scenes, often winter pieces.
