Henri-Joseph Harpignies: 'A River Scene'
This may be the earliest of the five paintings by Harpignies in the Collection, but the consistency of the artist's style makes the dating of his pictures difficult. Here, the artist plays with the vivid reflections of trees and hills in the still water, and with the strong contrast between the light, almost cloudless sky and the dark forms of nature. The site has not been identified.
