The building has not been identified. A christening party enters from the right. Beyond them a priest celebrates Mass and a funeral procession approaches the high altar. The paintings hanging in the church depict the Walk to Emmaus and Christ and the Woman of Samaria.
The architecture was painted by Steenwyck, but the figures are probably by Jan Brueghel the Elder (see Steenwyck's other painting of the same title 'The Interior of a Gothic Church Looking East', where comparable figures are depicted).
