Hans Memling: 'The Virgin and Child with an Angel'
The unidentified donor kneels on the right of the Virgin and Child. He is accompanied by Saint George, the legendary third-century Cappadocian knight who rescued a princess by slaying a dragon, here shown at his feet.

This is a small altarpiece, probably for private devotion. The design of the figures of the Virgin and Child appears often, with slight variations, in Memling's work (see for example 'The Donne Triptych').
