Studioli

A 'studiolo' (from the Italian, meaning little studio) is a small room, often lavishly decorated, dedicated to reading, studying and writing. It is generally of a relatively private character. In the 15th century, Isabella d'Este commissioned paintings from Mantegna and other major artists for her 'studiolo' in Mantua. The paintings of 'Rhetoric' and 'Music' attributed to Justus of Ghent came from the 'studiolo' of Federigo de Montefeltro in the Palace of Gubbio.
