Saint Vincent FerrerVincent was born in Valencia, the son of an Englishman, in about 1350. He joined the Dominicans in 1367, and travelled throughout Europe, preaching.
At the Council of Constance in 1414, which was convened to end the Schism which was splitting the Church, he tried to persuade Benedict XIII, one of the three rival claimants to the papal throne, to abdicate.
He died in France in 1419 and was canonised in 1455.
