Roundel
A picture which is round in format may be called a roundel; more commonly the term is used to describe a small round element of a complex picture such as an altarpiece.Small roundels are sometimes called medallions.
A roundel should be distinguished from a tondo, a circular picture, which is independent and displayed in a circular frame.
