Houbraken

Arnold Houbraken (1660 - 1719) was a painter who worked in Dordrecht and had been a pupil there of Aert de Gelder, himself a pupil of Rembrandt.

His three-volume 'De Groote Schouburgh der Nederlandtsche Konstschilders en Schilderessen' (The Great Theatre of Netherlandish Men and Women painters) (1718-21) remains the major source for historians studying the lives of Dutch artists of the 17th century.
