This personification of Justice holds her traditional attributes of the scales to weigh right and wrong, and the sword to punish the guilty. The coat of arms shown is that of a branch of the Contarini family. This picture was formerly in the Zecca (Mint) of Venice. Members of the Contarini family held posts there in 1542-3 and 1558-9 and the picture could date from either of these periods.
