Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo: 'The Marriage of Frederick Barbarossa'
The marriage of the Emperor Frederick I to Beatrice, daughter of the Count of Burgundy, was celebrated in Würzburg in 1156.

Compositionally, this picture is related to the fresco of the subject by the artist's father, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, of 1752 (Residenz, Würzburg) and has been thought to be a modello for that fresco. However, it is perhaps more likely to have been done by the son after his father's fresco.
