Domenichino and assistants: 'Mercury stealing the Herds of Admetus'
This painting is part of the group: Villa Aldobrandini Frescoes

Explore the paintings

Apollo is apparently guarding the herd of Admetus. (Ovid, 'Metamorphoses', 2).

The fresco (transferred to canvas) comes from a series painted in the Stanza di Apollo in the garden pavilion at the Villa Aldobrandini, Frascati. The very poor condition of this episode makes the identification of the painter or painters impossible.
