Circle of the Master of Liesborn: 'The Virgin and Child with a Donor'

Explore the paintings

The donor wears the black habit of a Benedictine monk. The head is on a piece of wood inserted and painted in the 19th century (original fragment in Landesmuseum, Münster).

The painting is an early example of the Rosary Madonna type. It is the central panel of an altarpiece from the Benedictine monastery in Herzebrock (Westphalia), some portions of which survive in Münster. Probably painted late in the 15th century, after 1470.
