This painting is part of the group: The Crucifixion Triptych

Explore the paintings

This painting is the left hand shutter from the Crucifixion triptych. It shows the donor who commissioned the work as if he were witnessing the Crucifixion - the subject of the central panel. His wife is painted opposite on the right hand panel.

His unidentified coat of arms is painted on the 'prie-dieu' (the prayer desk he is kneeling in front of) and has the letters 'WB' painted above it. In the background, is a scene of the Way to Calvary.
