Circle of Master of Liesborn: 'Saints Gregory, Maurice and Augustine'
This painting is part of the group: Two Shutters from an Altarpiece

Explore the paintings

This panel formed one of the shutters from an altarpiece in Liesborn Abbey, Westphalia, Germany.

The saints have inscriptions identifying them on their haloes. On this, the right shutter, are Saint Gregory (the Annunciation is represented in his robes), Saint Maurice (a Roman soldier martyred with his troops for refusing to sacrifice to pagan gods) and Saint Augustine; on the left shutter are 'Saints Ambrose, Exuperius and Jerome'.
