Carlo Crivelli: 'Saint Catherine of Alexandria'
This painting is part of the group: Panels from a Frame or a Predella
The 4th-century Saint Catherine of Alexandria is shown with a martyr's palm and her traditional attribute of the wheel on which she was tortured.

This and the panel of 'Saint Mary Magdalene' by the same artist were probably elements of a frame or a predella. They have often been regarded as studio work.

The fly on the left of this panel is a trick painted to demonstrate the power of art to deceive (see also the 'Portrait of a Lady' by the Swabian School).
