British (possibly Sir William Boxall): 'Portrait of a Man aged about 45'
This painting is part of the group: Portraits of a Man and a Woman

Explore the paintings

The portrait of a man was once thought to be a portrait of Sir William Boxall, RA (1800 - 1879), Director of the Gallery.

It is now thought more probably to be an early portrait by Boxall himself of his father. The pendant 'Portrait of a Woman aged about 45' is most probably a companion piece showing his mother.
