Bartholomeus Bruyn the Elder: 'The Virgin, Saints and a Holy Woman'

Explore the paintings

The Virgin Mary, Saint John the Evangelist, Saint Mary Magdalene and a Holy Woman are shown weeping, presumably over a figure of the dead Christ who was shown on the left.

This was probably painted in Cologne in the 1530s, and must have been the right wing of a diptych. The left-hand panel of this diptych has not been traced.
