The figures are, from left to right: Saints Scholastica, Mary Magdalen and Anne, the Virgin, Christ crucified, Saints John the Evangelist, Andrew, Benedict, Agnes. Saint Anne is depicted with the Madonna and Child in her arms, while Saint Andrew carries the X-shaped cross upon which he was martyred, and Saint Agnes is accompanied by a lamb.
This work is from the Benedictine Abbey at Liesborn, and may have formed the predella to an altarpiece there. Although it was not part of the high altarpiece from which other works in the Collection by this artist derive, the composition was probably inspired by the Crucifixion which was the central panel of that work.
