On the right a track runs down between cottages.
Influenced by the work of Dutch 17th-century painters such as van Goyen, this work does not appear to be a direct copy of a particular work. It is actually painted on two sheets of paper mounted edge to edge with the join just to the left of the centre. The right-hand portion of the landscape is more thinly painted, but the addition of storm clouds contrasts with the cloudless sky on the left.
