Anthony van Dyck: 'Charity'

This work was painted in Antwerp soon after Van Dyck's return from Italy in 1627. It reveals the influence of contemporary Italian painters, particularly Guido Reni, and Titian.

The composition was engraved shortly afterwards by Cornelis van Caukercken which may have contributed to the work's popularity, evident from the numerous known copies and versions.
