The Baptism of Christ

This scene, which is described in all four Gospels, shows Christ being baptised by John the Baptist in the River Jordan. The picture is a copy after an altarpiece predella panel by Perugino (Rouen, Musée des Beaux-Arts). Perugino's work was much in vogue in the 19th century.
