The Game of Pied de Bœuf

The game was originally a children's game, in which the players put their hands one on top of another, counting upwards from one; whoever had nine seized a hand not on the pile, saying 'Je tiens mon pied de boeuf.'

The painting is a copy of an original exhibited at the Salon in 1725; the composition has been inverted and a different background has been added.
