After Bonifazio di Pitati: 'Dives and Lazarus'

Explore the paintings

The subject is a parable told by Jesus: the rich Dives gives a feast, ignoring the poor Lazarus at his gate. Later Lazarus feasts in Paradise while Dives goes to Hell (Luke 16).

This work has been considered to be a sketch for the large picture of the same subject in the Accademia, Venice, but is in fact derived from that work, which enjoyed considerable celebrity.
