Adriaen van de Velde: 'A Farm with a Dead Tree'
This is an early work which shows van de Velde working in the style of Paulus Potter.

Bathed in a warm afternoon light, the farmyard scene conveys a sense of peace and tranquility. The only activity is the conversation between the farmer and the milkmaid. The viewer's eye, however, is drawn to the finely painted dead tree which is dramatically silhouetted against the blue sky.
