A number of figures, on horseback and on foot, are seen beside a fountain. This painting is possibly a companion piece to the artist's 'Meeting Place of the Hunt'. These imagined figure scenes were a favourite subject for Monticelli throughout his career. In his later years subject matter became subordinated to his colourful, thickly painted style.
