Take Art provides access to the National Gallery Collection for children and young people who, due to short- and long-term illnesses, are being educated in hospital.
The National Gallery currently works with 19 hospital schools in Greater London.
Sessions are delivered in classrooms, on general wards, and in specialist units. Each participating hospital is offered two 90-minute sessions per term which are based on a theme of their choice and delivered by a National Gallery lecturer.
During these sessions, the group focuses on up to five paintings using high quality, large-scale prints (among other resources). These paintings provide the inspiration for interactive discussion, multi-sensory work and practical activities.
At the end of each visit one print is permanently donated to the hospital school as a resource for further educational work.
Take Art is generously funded by the John S Cohen Foundation.
