Ageing Creatively aims to provide access to the collection for older people who may be isolated, vulnerable or unable to visit the Gallery independently.
Older people get many benefits from participatory projects that use art as their starting point, particularly in terms of mental and physical stimulation, sociability, creativity and enjoyment.
We work with partners across the UK to provide groups of older people with one themed project per year. Most of the project takes place at the partner’s venue. It is led by a freelance artist who uses high quality reproductions of the focus paintings as a starting point for interactive discussion, reminiscence and practical creative work.
Where possible, we arrange for each group to make a visit to the National Gallery, giving participants an opportunity to see the paintings and explore the Gallery further.
