The National Gallery is collaborating with Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication on 'Transcriptions: Sound’, an innovative new project which involves sound design students producing a three-minute response to a painting of their choice in the Gallery's collection.

From the sound artist:
This audio piece concerns itself with the myth behind the painting. In researching the picture, I grew interested in the creation of myths and their interpretation at different times in history. The 'Fight between the Lapiths and the Centaurs' became representative of the struggle of human reason over animal instinct. Working in collaboration with writer Sean Cannon, the piece attempts to characterise these sentiments. We hear the voice of a man close to death, contemplating the flaws of his existence and his battle to control the beast within.
