From the sound artist:
Don Claudio, the character in a play by Antonio de Zamora, has been tricked into believing that his life depends on keeping the oil lamp burning. The words ‘lam.. desco... ’ in the painting’s lower right corner references the original text from the play, ‘lampara descomunal... ’ (monstrous lamp), which features in our character’s monologue. The playful flamenco relates to the rise of the form in the late 1700s.
