From the film-maker:

The subject itself inspired me most and then the position in which the dead soldier lies, with the smoke from above and a trickle of liquid forming beside him. The dark colours and shady areas of the painting inspired the look of the location set to create the mood of the place where the soldier would spend his last hours. 'Imprisoned' ends in the same way as the painting, giving a reason to the brave soldier's death, but in more of a contemporary style.
