From the film-maker:

I wondered who the woman in the painting was. Is she a prostitute? The way she dries herself gave me the feeling this was a cleansing ritual, probably after being with a client. The way she is drying her neck was also important - it gave me the feeling she was worried. The weight she seems to put on her neck with the towel suggested this to me. I felt that conflict for this woman would be being pregnant. How would you deal with having a potential life inside you, knowing this clashes with the way you live and earn a living? I found the nudity, especially seen from behind, very interesting. In the painting, the way the woman seems to be at ease with her own body and the way she shows her back to us attracted me. I felt the need to give her an identity, a life.

A piece inspired by Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas, After the Bath, Woman drying herself, about 1890-5
