From the film-maker:
The painting depicts a scene from a play and the story came from researching this work. I wanted to create a movie that represented what I felt about the artwork rather than how it inspired me. I had studied Goya in the past, and felt comfortable dealing with his subject matter. This painting portrayed characteristics of Goya's acknowledged demonic perspective on the world. However, the play that the painting depicts had a sense of comedy within it. I attempted to create a story that combined both these forces. It was to be a story with dark undertones, leading the audience one way and then delivering a comical and light-hearted ending.
