Unlike a calm and serene Virgin who has surrendered completely to divine will, this woman seems annoyed by the duty she has to accomplish. Her elegant gown reminds me of a matron of high social class, who would entrust the feeding of her baby to a wet nurse rather than doing it herself. She squeezes her nipple towards the audience like a threatening weapon, and her face suggests intolerance for something she never asked for. Close to her lies a book; a play script that repeats itself day by day, just as for my Amanda, who nevertheless will get to the point of not digesting the script any more, too tantalising and scary the suggestions included on it, too intense the character she has to perform. All the clichés assure us that breastfeeding and motherhood are always memorable experiences. The film is a humble attempt to unhinge a taboo.
