From the film-maker:
On first viewing the painting I was mostly drawn toward the subject matter. The painting features the Son of M. Le Noir making a house of cards. The prospect of an individual amusing themselves with something as simple as a packet of cards was very appealing to me so I went about constructing a story along a similar theme. The house of cards within the painting has been said to symbolise the fragility of human endeavor, another theme that I wished to explore within my film.
