From the film-maker:
I chose to interpret the painting in a modern context, so that instead of archers, the brothers would be boxers. The two brothers in the painting became members of the Royal Company of Archers, so in my story I envisaged that they could be members of an amateur boxing club. I was interested in the fact that the younger brother was in his elder brother’s shadow: it was as if the elder brother dominated him. Studying the painting, I sensed an intense rivalry and yet a love and respect between the two of them. I wanted my film to explore this interesting and complex relationship.
