From the film-maker:
I was very inspired by the painting, as by merely looking it, without knowing the background, it felt to me like pain. I can see the pain of mourning the loss of a dear one. The nymph lying on the ground with wounds on her hand and wrist gave me the inspiration to use similar wounds, caused by injections. I felt that the mourning satyr resembled the pain of a child longing for and grieving the loss of his mother. This led me to picture the story of a child’s imagination, how he views his mother and how the reality is not necessarily the same. He could be at her side in disbelief, yet in pain. I tried in my initial choice of colours for the original shots to give it the same feel as the painting but later decided to go for black and white to indicate nostalgic memories.
