The painting shows the different aspects of horror created by war. There is a woman on the left of the frame who raises her hand towards God. A man on the right of the frame has fallen down in a similar position. In the middle, the presence of a man in red clothes holding a knife in his hand divides the painting into two parts. The man with the knife squashes the book with his feet. I interpreted the man as a symbol of war, which divided people and made them victims. The red colour seems so wild in comparison to the pale and dark colours in the painting. The theme and the situation of these three characters in the painting was my primary inspiration.
